LOTTERIES in Singapore have made more than 200 people instant millionaires in the past five years, with five big winners in the past week alone.
There is a chance a few more millionaires will turn up today, thanks to the $10 million Hongbao Toto draw.
But if overseas experience is anything to go by, sudden wealth does not always ensure that winners live happily ever after.
Now Singapore Pools, which runs lotteries here, has come up with a programme to help winners manage the big money.
It says it does not know if there is a problem here because it does not keep track of past winners.
But Singapore Pools chief executive Tan Soo Nan said: ‘There are enough real-life cases overseas of major lottery winners losing all their winnings and ending up broke and depressed because they did not have proper financial advice on how to manage their wealth.
