A powerful 7 magnitude earthquake has hit Okinawa, Japan.
A tsunami warning was in effect for Japan after the massive earthquake that struck in the early morning hours of Saturday February 27 2010 local time.
The US Geological Survey, who monitor earthquakes world wide said the quake read an initial reading of 7.3 on the Richter scale.
The Japan earthquake authorities soon after said a strong 7-magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s Ryukyu Islands.

White House social secretary Desiree Rogers, who has been under fire ever since Michaele and Tareq Salahi crashed President Barack Obama’s first state dinner, will resign in March, she told Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet.

Public Service of New Hampshire working Friday morning to recover from the big wind storm that left more than 229,000 (two hundred twenty – nine thousand) PSNH customers without power.
Given the wide range of damage and a large number of road closures and individual problems that will be addressed, restoration times are not yet available. It is clear, however, that it will take several days to recover fully from the storm.
The company
has opened the Emergency Operations Center, and all those working in the area of regional centers. It appears that all regions of the State have been affected, along with other electric utilities of New Hampshire also reporting large numbers of cuts.
In addition to special teams, and a number of independent line crews and tree crews working on behalf of PSNH. The company is actively working to secure additional staff from within and outside the state.
PSNH urges customers to stay clear of the drop or sagging power lines that may occur as a result of the storm. Stay away from downed trees or columns, and the report of this situation immediately to PSNH at 1-800-662-7764. According to his parents, Koenig left evidence that he was depressed prior to his disappearance.On February 25, 2010, it was reported by CNN that his body was found by friends searching for him in Stanley Park in Vancouver.
Police later confirmed Koenig’s body was found earlier in the day, and Koenig’s father told reporters at an evening press conference that his son took his own life.
Although footage of the Wednesday, February 24 whale attack which has killed Dawn Brancheau, a 40-year-old trainer at SeaWorld Orlando hasn’t emerged, hundreds of thousands viewers are flocking to YouTube in search of the clip and to watch dozens of whale videos.
Yesterday’s death, according to video interviews and news reports, was not the first time a whale has turned on its trainer. SeaWorld has a history of killer whales becoming aggressive. In each case, spectators watch in horror as trainers are thrown around like feeder fish and pounced on by the enormous animals.
Of the large pool of whale attack videos, viewers have been especially fond of clips that capture carnage and offer information on why the beasts turn on humans. Entertainment venues like SeaWorld also continue to be under fire for keeping killer whales in captivity. Opponents have longed claimed whales belong at sea and when one attacks a human, few should be shocked.
One popular YouTube clip includes an interview with whale expert Nancy Black, who says confining a 20,000-pound animal is a recipe for disaster.
“Whales are top predators,” Black said. “And they are put in a small tank (and) they get stressed out. They look for companionship.”
As for Tillikum, the male killer whale involved in Wednesday’s tragedy, Black says stress and isolation were likely what sparked the whale to behave erratically.
“I think there was a lot of stress involved,” Black said. “I hear that whale was often isolated. And, people were not getting in the water with it because of previous incidents.”
Tilikum has killed before. In 1991, Tili, and two females, killed a trainer in Canada. Officials believe a man entered SeaWorld after hours in 1999 and drowned during an encounter with Tilikum.
A fierce blaze that broke out in the unoccupied Surf Hotel, at Hampton Beach NH, was spread by nearly hurricane force gales to nearby buildings overwhelming an entire block. Many businesses have been destroyed. Thankfully so far there are no reports of anybody receiving injuries.
The three- story Surf Hotel is amid a heavily populated area of Hampton, along the Atlantic coast. The fire in the wood-framed buildings which incorporated a storage facility, gift shop, apartments and a games arcade, rapidly spread. Fortunately most of the businesses along the seafront area are open only in the summer, and fire chief Steve Benotti said the buildings were empty at the time.
A storm moving along the coast only helped to fan the flames but the fire has now been contained. Witnesses said that the fire was visible even from several miles away. The fire department which was already stretched because of emergencies due to the bad weather had to call in extra help from Massachusetts and Maine.
